SMB 3 Multichannel Requirements
Multichannel is a feature of SMB 3 that allows multiple wired network connections to share traffic, improving transfer speeds and enhancing reliability.
If you have enabled SMB 3 Multichannel in System Settings > File Services > SMB > Advanced Settings but have not seen a significant speed improvement, check whether the following conditions are met:
- Both the NAS and the client have multiple network ports, and the number of connected ports on the NAS is an integer multiple of the client's port count.
- The NAS and client ports can communicate with each other (on the same subnet or with proper routing).
- All network ports on both the NAS and client have the same speed (otherwise, the system may prioritize the fastest port when ports have different speeds).
- The client supports SMB 3 Multichannel, including Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and later.
- Hard drive and CPU performance are adequate and not a bottleneck.
